The 62nd National Awards were held today to honor the best pieces of cinematic art, and its artists from across the country that sparkled this year. President Pranab Mukherjee felicitated the winners during this glorious event. After having won a National Award for the best supporting actress, Kangana Ranaut bagged her second national award under the Category of Best Actress in a leading role, for the movie ‘Queen’.
Set in Kashmir, the modern version of Hamlet starring Shahid Kapoor, ‘Haider’ achieved five wins – Vishal Bhardwaj for Best Dialogues and Best Music Director, Shukwinder Singh for Best Singer for ‘Bismil’ followed by two more wins, one for Best Choreography and Best Costume.
This award season has been a huge treat for all the parallel cinema lovers, and the National Awards’ Jury didn’t let them down. Kannada Actor, Vijay, was declared Best Actor for portraying the non-stereotypical character of a rebellious and struggling Transgender in ‘Nanu Avanalla Avalu’.
Chaintanya Tamhane’s critically acclaimed ‘Court’ scored good applause in the International circuit and today, bagged the award for the Best Film. This was the first National Award ceremony after India’s 100 years completion in cinema, and with films like these, the Indian film industry is commencing its second century with a great start.
